There are weird collision detection issues causing bug patterns to not behave, causing a random mess. The AI logic doesn't have the same timings, so you can't do things like snatch chips from right in front of teeth anymore. There is added animation for blocks hitting the water, so you have to wait a lot of frames to step on a block right after pushing it in the water, which causes some issues in levels where you push a lot of blocks in the water. Movement all around is really sluggish, and navigating mazes to hit high scores is just not fun anymore. Music is not the same either, but you can get mods for that.The core puzzles are mostly the same, which is good, but the gameplay changes make me wonder why I don't just go back to the original.. Before there was anything else, there was Chip.. I played this game years ago and this is a faithful remake. Some reviews mention the animation of the walking that messes up their movements. I've had the opposite reaction, the animation helps me predict when I will be in the next square and helps aid me in making quick movements. I make less mistakes with this remake then I did with the original. Love this game! Definately worth the small price it is asking.. Oh, Chips Challenge; how wonderful are you. Aside from causing great distress, anger, and rage at the trolling that this puzzle game brings to you; it is a wonderful challenge at any age.This game will surely bring many challenges with it, and with the bundle of the first time ever released Chips Challenge 2 and a level editor, this is well worth the price.Seriously, if you like puzzles; get this game; and get it now.. Okay, it may not seem like I've played this game much judging by my playtime on Steam. However, this is not the case. Far from the case. I've sank so many hours into the Microsoft Best of Entertainment Pack version it's not even funny. I have fond memories playing this game as a child. The pain. The suffering. The heavenly reward of touching the blue glowy wormhole at the end. Over the years, I've beaten the game numerous times. Meaning about twice. There's hundreds of levels in the game, ranging from extremely simple, to fairly challenging, to stupidly simple and mundane, to 'Jesuschristijustwanttofinishthisgoddamnlevelfor♥♥♥♥ssakeimgonnakillsomebody'.Yeah. Good thing is, the difficulty is paced fairly evenly. The level layouts are genius, the puzzles are world-class. The controls are nice and simple, and the looks nice. This brings me to this port.The Steam port isn't actually that bad. The real only changes is that the sprites are more of a cross between the original Atari Lynx and the Windows version, which isn't a bad thing. For instance, Chip is actually animated, and the screen scrolls properly, unlike the Windows version, which is more of a jittery mess. I like it. It's easy enough to adjust to. However, the music is a different story. The Lynx version had awesome chiptunes, the Windows had the most nostalgic midis, and this has...'eh'-best piano tracks. They don't exactly fit as well as the others, but it's really nothing special to write home about otherwise. If it's really bothersome, just mute it and throw on whatever you want in the background since the game runs in windowed mode.On that, there is a serious issue with the game. It is windowed. Normally this isn't much of an issue with games like this, but it's unscaleable. The default ratio is what you get. For me, I don't have that large of a monitor, and the game is big enough, but for those with larger monitors, such as 4k, this will be a big problem. Hopefully this'll be patched soon. Along with workship support. Seriously, a tilepack to make it look just like the windows version would be godly.Overall, hell yes get this game. It seems most of the negative reviews are either from people having the display problem or just nostalgiatards who can't stand the difference from the Windows version. Get over it. Enjoy the freaking game. It was $1.99 which is a steal considering you can't even get the original games outside of the Lynx and DOS ports. Oh hey, there's a sequel out now, too. I hope it's good considering the near 20-something-year wait.... Played this game in my youth, so happy I found it on steam. Lots of fun, keeps the brain moving; super nostalgic :)Great little game!. Beings back great old memories from when i was a kid. It's very challenging game with so many puzzles to solve.. If you grew up playing Chips Challenge then this is great for nostalgia but if you don't you probably won't be very entertained with this game. While some of the puzzles are challenging this game is very dated and probably has little appeal to newer gamers who will probably bore quickly.For those of you who like me are looking to relive your childhood memories this is great. At first I was really dissapointed with this game. The basic gameplay was the same, collecting chips, keys and boots and all that but the look was different. I didn't realize there were different verisons of the game. When I finally went into the game preferences I switched it to the "win" setting and now it became much more familiar looking (though Chips coloring is off from what I remeber). If chip doesn't look right to you try changing the setting that will probably fix the problem. You can also change the key commands. It was set for 'wasd' but the Chip I remember was alwasy arrow key controlled, so I was glad I was able to change it.The only real problem I have with this game is that it seems to freeze up or take a long time to respond. That means though the timer is counting down, Chip doesn't respond to commands or ocassionally (because I keep pushing the button hoping he will respond) Chip all of the sudden respods by going too far... I've had him fall into water and fire several times due to this which is very annoying! It seems like this should be able to run much smoother than it does without any lag especially since it always ran flawlessly on my ancient PCs which have nowhere near the computing and processing power of my current PC.. Nostalgia. I wanted this, found some version and it couldn't work. Bought this. Love it. YAY!. fun game! Its Cheep, and can keep you invested for hours! you have nothing to loose if you get this
